Swimwear of the 1940's
The dawn of WWII was among us during the 1940’s, but the
swim of this era did not embody that of dismal war time. Strapless one-piece
swimwear was new on the menu, and every lady wanted one of these waist-nipping
silhouettes. Or, women gravitated to the newly made bikini; these bikinis had
high-waisted bottoms, to create the hour glass shape, and were characterized as
a little racier than the one-piece. Men of this time shrunk down their trunks
too! Men’s swimsuits became boxer-brief type trunks; even tighter than before
they showed off every inch of the male wartime “bod”.
