Swimwear of the 1980's
The 1980’s was a conservative whiplash in America’s history.
Swimwear became a streamline design, there were two options: bikini or one-piece.
The variations of these two primary patterns were “cutouts” in the sides or
back, strapless or not, and band or triangle top. Contrary to previous swim
styles, the women raised the cut of the legs on their suits. The goal of which
was to elongate the leg, for sexual appeal of course. There was another anomaly
in men’s swimwear: the thong or the speedo. These had just been recently
introduced, and were incredibly scandalous to modern standards.
